Student Leadership

Early this spring semester Illini for Christ began developing a campus ministry team. This team will include both college students and members of the Philo Road Church of Christ that are not college students.

Two student roles have naturally developed — activities coordinator and service coordinator.

The activities coordinator plans, executes, and communicates fun activities for the ministry. This could include anything from small group meeting times to local or domestic trips. This semester Parkland nursing student and longtime Philo Road member Leah Riedel has taken on that responsibility.

The service coordinator collaborates and generates different service opportunities locally and even sometimes on a larger scale. This semester UIUC plant biotech major Marie Shaffer brings experiences like teaching and serving with the organization Caring for Kenya to Champaign-Urbana.

We believe that these two roles will be vital as the group grows and begins to ask the question, “how is God leading us as a Christian community today?”

To help reinforce that question is Jon Smith, our interim campus minister and the Evangelist at the Philo Road church. Jon and his wife, Emma, love to spend time with college students and ask that if you or someone that you know is coming to UIUC or Parkland, please reach out to Jon or the Philo Road Church of Christ.

What’s the best way to reach out? Great question! On Instagram we are at @illiniforchrist, you can find us on Facebook as Illini for Christ with the ministry logo that you see to the right. Send us a message or get in touch with the Philo Road Church of Christ by email (prccoffice@comcast.net) or phone (217-344-1659).

We hope to see you soon!
